About Suffolk Young Peoples Theatre

Who are we and what are we about?

Suffolk Young people's Theatre was formed in 1979 by the Late Ray Dyer MBE together with his wife Daphne Dyer. Daphne remains a driving force of the group.

We are a registered charity and not for profit amateur youth group that runs an annual three week summer school in late July early August each year culminating in a run of performances in the theatre.

We believe that theatre by young people should aspire to the highest standards in terms of both process and product and we strive to develop and improve our work each year. We challenge young performers up to the age of 21 to stage a full production in just two weeks of intensive rehearsal.

Suffolk Young People's Theatre is open to all in this age group and members are selected annually through an audition process. We aim to engage successful applicants in a high quality, challenging and meaningful theatre experience.

All participants are treated as equals with the emphasis on co-operation and collaboration.

The annual summer school traditionally takes place in the last two weeks of July and the first week of August, though dates may vary slightly from year to year. "We currently rehearse at West Suffolk College" using the superb purpose built 'Conservatoire East' facilities
